It's a Small World After All
We’ve been rolling out the results from our detailed reviews of over 700 global Websites operated by IBM, HP, Dell, Sun, Cisco, Nortel Networks, Oracle, and SAP. Along the way, we've blown the doors off plenty of conventional wisdoms.
We've packed some of our most interesting information in four new reports:
In "Global Websites Roster | It's a Small World After All" we identify where leading IT companies operate global Websites around the globe, and show you why "list envy" is a loser's game.
Quick Facts
- Dell targets the largest number of countries, followed by IBM and Oracle. Nortel Networks targets the fewest number of countries. Dell achieves its leadership, in large part, via the savvy use of language-specific regional sites. Dell's Latin America sites qualify as a clear best practice.
- To be competitive in Western Europe, you must operate global Websites in 19 countries.
- Of the 25 countries in Latin America, only 11 can be considered high priority. Smart companies will target them via a well-crafted regional strategy.
- Leading IT companies operate sites in up to 25 countries in the Asia Pacific region — but only 14 countries should be considered high priority venues.
- If you don't have a solid presence in Eastern Europe — or a solid strategy to develop one — you are already behind the curve. Seventeen countries are now a competitive standard. Language compliance requirements are stiff, however, and "let em read English" strategies won't cut it.
- Dell.com operates in 47 African countries, but playing follow the leader here is a fool's game. Only South Africa qualifies as a competitive imperative.
